Even as I self-proclaimed geek I’m getting a little tired of superhero inspired television. It seems, however, the networks still feel genre programming like this lends itself well to viewers. The latest show to join the hero theme is NBC’s The Cape. I’m willing to give the show a try only because it brings with it Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and Firefly star Summer Glau:
“The potential series stars David Lyons as a former cop who finds himself framed as a criminal and becomes a masked hero called The Cape in order to clear his game.”
So, how does Glau fit into this show:
“The Hollywood Reporter says Glau will play Orwell, described as, ‘a cute and intrepid investigative blogger who fearlessly goes after corrupt cops and costumed bad guys.’ The Reporter notes that Glau, known for playing deceptively tough characters in Firefly and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, will again play a character who ‘gets physical and is quite capable of kicking ass.’”
While I appreciate the nod to bloggers (hey, I’ll take anything that validates this as a real career) the name “Orwell” just stings with cliche in my opinion. Furthermore, even though the movie Kick-Ass has yet to be released I’m already suffering from ordinary-person-turns-superhero fatigue. Probably has something to do with Defendor as well.
That said, it’s Summer Glau! I can handle watching that for an hour every week.
