If you were cruising YouTube late on Saturday you may have been lucky enough to catch the first trailer for Robert Rodriguez’s Predators. The trailer actually debuted at SXSW and then made it onto the web for a brief period before being removed by Twentieth Century Fox.
The South by Southwest® (SXSW®) Conferences & Festivals offer the unique convergence of original music, independent films, and emerging technologies. Fostering creative and professional growth alike, SXSW® is the premier destination for discovery.
If you missed the trailer’s brief appearance online like most everyone, then you’ll have to settle for the sneak peek footage that’s available at the official Predators website. The site went live over the weekend and the footage available there is most impressive. Rodriguez stated early on that he wanted to get back to the darker, R-rated roots of the original film and that’s exactly what he seems to be delivering. If you’re checking out the official site then you’ll notice that we won’t have to wait much longer to all see the SXSW trailer which will be released on the site on March 18.
The synopsis reads like this:
A bold new chapter in the Predator universe, Predators stars Adrien Brody as Royce, a mercenary who reluctantly leads a group of elite warriors who come to realize they’ve been brought together on an alien planet… as prey.
With the exception of a disgraced physician, they are all cold-blooded killers – mercenaries, Yakuza, convicts, death squad members – human “predators” that are now being systemically hunted and eliminated by a new breed of alien Predators.”The movie Predators is directed by Nimrod Antal and produced by Robert Rodriguez. The film is starring Adrien Brody, Walton Goggins, Danny Trejo, Oleg Taktarov and Mahershalalhashbaz Ali. It will be released on July 9, 2010.
The lucky few who were able to attend the Predators panel and trailer screening at SXSW scored some pretty fine, limited edition swag in the form of a t-shirt and the first ever Predators poster.
You can be sure these bad boys will be going for big bucks on EBay before too long.
In addition to screening the trailer and other footage for rabid fans at SXSW, Rodriquez showed off a lot of concept and production artwork providing everyone in attendance and everyone on the net with a real, huge tease of things to come.
Predators opens in theaters on July 9th, 2010. You know where I’ll be! How about you?
