Bag and Board, Mar. 10 Edition

There’s been a flurry of comic book movie related news over the past couple of weeks and The Geek Effect has been on top of it, bringing you the latest scoop on Captain America, The Green Lantern, Superman, The Avengers and Iron Man 2. With a bunch more comic book movie related news released today I didn’t figure there was any point in bucking the trend with the Bag and Board column. In fact, we’ll even get into some comic book television news this week as well. So, let’s dive right into it!

A while back we showed you the trailer for The Losers and today saw the release of the official one sheet poster art for The Losers.

Along with the one sheet, the official movie synopsis was also released:

An explosive action tale of betrayal and revenge, THE LOSERS centers around the members of an elite Special Forces unit sent to the Bolivian jungle on a search and destroy mission. But the team-Clay, Jensen, Roque, Pooch and Cougar-soon find that they have become the target of a deadly double cross, instigated from the inside by a powerful enemy known only as Max.

Making good use of the fact that they are now presumed dead, the group goes deeply undercover in a dangerous plot to clear their names and even the score with Max. They are joined by the mysterious Aisha, a beautiful operative with her own agenda, who is more than capable of scoring a few points of her own. Working together, when they’re not arguing amongst themselves, they have to stay one step ahead of the globetrotting Max-a ruthless man bent on embroiling the world in a new high-tech global war for his own benefit. If they can take down Max and save the world at the same time, it’ll be a win win for the team now known as “The Losers.”

THE LOSERS stars Jeffery Dean Morgan as Clay; Zoe Saldana as Aisha; Chris Evans as Jensen; Idris Elba as Roque; Columbus Short as Pooch; Oscar Jaeneda as Cougar; and Jason Patric as Max.

In a similar vein, Monday saw the release of the official, although brief, Thor movie synopsis:

Paramount Pictures and Marvel Entertainment present the epic adventure, “Thor,” which spans the Marvel Universe from present day Earth to the realm of Asgard. At the center of the story is the mighty Thor (Chris Hemsworth), a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. Thor is cast down to Earth by his father Odin (Anthony Hopkins) and is forced to live among humans. A beautiful, young scientist, Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), has a profound effect on Thor, as she ultimately becomes his first love. It’s while here on Earth that Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth.

Like I said, brief, but definitely intriguing.

If you’ve been keeping tabs on Kick-Ass then you’ve more than likely already seen the trailer, but Kick-Ass also got it’s very own official website last week and it’s a pretty fun one at that.

As I mentioned earlier, there are a couple interesting comic book/television cross-over titles that will be hitting the stands this week. The first of these is Jericho: Season 3 #3 from Devil’s Due Publishing. I had hoped to discuss this book back when issue #1 dropped, but didn’t quite get around to it until now. If you were a fan of the short-lived television series form CBS then you should certainly be picking up this comic. It’s written by the same team that penned the fan-favourite show and picks up right where the show was unceremoniously cancelled. In a day and age overflowing with amazing television on nearly every channel, there are a good number of series that don’t quite get a fair chance at making it on the small screen since the competition is just too stiff. It’s really nice when a show as good and as promising as Jericho gets a second lease on life via comic books.

IDW Publishing will have The A-Team: Shotgun Wedding #1 in stores this week with The A-Team: War Stories set to follow later in the month. There’s no word on how these series will tie in with the movie, but the cover artwork is looking very nice and there had been a distinct lack of The A-Team in my life since 1987 so I’ll surely be checking this out.

Over at Marvel, Wolverine fans will want to scoop up the Wolverine: Mr. X #1 one -shot, promising a bloody rematch throwdown between the two titular psycopaths. DC fans will not want to miss the kick-off of the next big Superman crossover, “Brainiac and the Legion of Super-Heroes” in Superman: Last Stand of New Krypton #1.
