The first theatrical trailer for Tron: Legacy was released with Alice Wonderland last weekend. Have you seen it? No? Well here you go:
Great to have Tron back, but maybe our special effects are too good for a movie like this? Everything in the virtual world seems too real to me. Heck, it seems more real than the supposed “real” stuff in the Star Wars prequels! I want thinks to look more digital, dagnabbit! But maybe that’s because I’m an old geezer who likes the original Tron too much. Maybe you can’t go home again.
I also wasn’t a huge fan of the looks on the Con-Con teaser. Missed that one too? Geez! What, do you work for a living or something?
See? The cars aren’t doing 90 degree angles! You feeling my pain on this? Anyone?
Actually, there are many things I do like about Tron: Legacy. That is exists for one. Also that it is bringing back both Jeff Bridges and Bruce Boxleitner. And the (possible) appearance of Clu in the teaser trailer above makes me super happy.
So I guess it’s just the special effects that I’m beefing on. And it’s not like they’re bad at all, they’re actually pretty damn good. That’s the problem! They’re too good. I realize that PS3s are better graphically than Ataris, so I suppose it makes sense that the video game world looks more modern than it did when the original Tron came out in 1982, but I still need more virtual cheesiness in my Tron, I can’t help it.
Hey, I’ll still be there on December 17th, hoping for the best, but while we’re waiting, how about some right angles?
Ahhh, much better!

HOly Crap!! I am so ubelievably excited for this film! Tron is one of my all time favourite movies. Though to be honest I am a little disappointed that the light cycles don’t make 90 degree turn anymore either. It would be sweet if Flynn digs out one of the old bikes at some point during the movie!
The new recognizers look sick!
December 17th can’t come fast enough for me!
I am all in for this film next December!!! Personally, I LOVE the updated look. I grew up with the original TRON but I honestly do find it difficult to watch these days. I hope TRON Legacy does for Tron what the JJ Abrams Star Trek did for Trek; bring it up to speed with modern times, but in a smart way that respects the past.
Tron: Legacy just keeps looking better and better! RT @thegeekeffect: Tron: Legacy Trailer Online http://goo.gl/fb/juqS
I hear what you’re saying about the virtual world looking too real. That said, how can Disney not totally push the envelope when it comes to this of all films? Could this film possibly challenge that of Avatar? Guess we’ll find out.
…also, the musical score sounds great from what you can hear of it. Way to go Daft Punk!
